Salt is a necessary part of food for a lot of us but sometimes we overdo it.
Here’s how to know when you’re going a bit too far with your love for salt
- Your stomach feels tight or bloated This happens because your body retains water to create extra fluids. The fluids are needed to remove the excess salt in the body
- You are always thirsty: when salt is high in the body. Your body becomes dehydrated because salt pulls water from different cells in the body making you feel dehydrated and thirsty.
- You urinate a lot: More salt makes thirsty and leads to more trips to the restroom.
- Poor Sleep: A high salt load can cause you frequent urination at night which will interrupt your sleep cycle.
- Too much salt can make you feel nauseous in your stomach and lead to stomach cramps which can lead to Diarrhea.
- Your hands feet or face are swollen. Salt needs water so it traps water within the cells and prevents it from leaving.
- More water in your cells can lead to an increase in weight.
- Water naturally leaves an area of low salt concentration to an area of high salt concentration. This is what happens when you eat salty meals and you suddenly feel weak. Water has left the cells to go to a place that has a higher concentration.
This can ultimately make you feel weak.
