How to reduce blood pressure with tasty smoothies

Smoothies are a great way to get all the needed nutrients in plants into your system.

If you make it right you’d be surprised at how it will make your health better. .

So first let’s answer the question, when should smoothies be taken?

Smoothies are a light meal and they are fluid. They encourage a quick break down of food and hence help to get waste out of the body.

With this in mind, the best time to take it, is at the time the body is sending waste out of the body.

The body does this between 4am and 11am.

Now this doesn’t mean that if you are longing to eat a sweet and healthy treat. You can’t have it at any other time of the day.

You can have smoothies in the morning, at noon and at night.

It is most helpful when taken in the morning.

It’s also best taken before food so it can get into the system and get to work.

For those who love to eat at night or need a late night meal, smoothies are a healthy option you can have at night. Your are sure that with them you won’t add extra fat around the waist. .

Now that we know when to take the smoothies, let’s see what should be in them to help reduce blood pressure or keep it normal.

Most of the vitamins, minerals and nutrients are vital to a normal and stable blood pressure. I will highlight a few that have had great effects on blood pressure.

Make sure these ingredients are not missed out when making your smoothie.

They are:

Nitrates
Anthrocyanins
Vitamin C
Probiotics
Potassium

Each of these play a major role in the health of the blood vessels, the blood and the heart.

Nitrates, in particular dietary nitrates have been found to help the walls of the blood vessels to relax.

When the walls relax this encourages blood flow and reduces pressure.

Sources of nitrates include green vegetables like spinach, lettuce. Other sources include beets.
Make sure at least one of these are in your smoothie.

Anthrocyanins- This is a substance found in fruits that have colors like red, purple, blue, etc. . It has antioxidant effects and helps to remove free radicals(cancer forming cells) from the body.

It also helps to reduce cholesterol level. This effect improves the health of the blood vessels and the heart.

It can be found in berries like strawberry, blue berries it can also be found in hibiscus which is also know as zobo leaf, red onions, tomatoes and kidney beans.

Vitamin C

The role of this substance is major and you can get it from any fruit. Vitamin c helps to remove free radicals.

One thing I didn’t mention above is that free radicals move thru the blood and cause many disease states. It’s a must that as much as one can, one should eat things that remove free radicals from the body.

It also helps in antioxidation- this is the taking out of toxins.. Toxins attach to the walls of blood vessels travel through the blood. This destroys the walls of blood vessels and the heart and leads to high blood pressure, blood vessel disease and heart disease.

It’s been found by John Hopkins University school of medicine that 500mg per day may lead to bringing down blood pressure a little..

With this in mind one may want to take the tablet form of this nutrient but we are making smoothies so it’s better to use fruits.

It’s good to use fruit because you get other much needed nutrients and your body can easily accept and take it in, break it down and use it.

Fruits with high vitamin C content are the African cherry, Guava, black currants, lemons and pawpaw. Vegetables with a lot of vitamin c are Kale, Broccoli, Spinach, all peppers.

So you have many options when it comes to this major nutrient. . All the above give more vitamin C than orange.

Probiotics-
This gives you a rich supply of healthy and good bacteria which help to remove toxins and convert food into vital substances that will improve heart health and the health of the blood vessels.
Probiotics can be gotten from yoghurt or any fermented food.

Potassium- This is a major part of a smoothie that will reduce blood pressure. It must not be missed out. We all know that, he right amount of potassium in the system helps to reduce blood pressure and keep it normal.

Sources of potassium include tomato, banana, coconut, avocado, beans, lentils, sweet potatoes, green vegetables.

I’m sure you’ve noticed that some fruits and vegetables have more than one of these major nutrients in them. .

Nature is great. It has so many things to keep us healthy.

So now that you have a clear picture of what you need to make a great tasting smoothie.
